Hang glider Base Bar

In the race for more performance Moyes Delta Gliders decided to develop the highly aerodynamic 'Zoom' A-frame for their top of the range 'Litespeed' glider.

An integral part of this A frame is the aerodynamic carbon fibre base bar which is produced by Composite Creations.

                               

The 'Zoom' base bar was designed by Gerolf Heinrichs of Moyes Delta Gliders and a CAD file was delivered to Composite Creations.

Composite Creations completed the tooling and production set up in approximately 1 month and we had finalised the laminate design and started producing base bars a few weeks later.

                           

 Base bars are produced in a high pressure aluminium female mould using pre-impregnated carbon and e-glass fibres. The mould is electrically heated and thermocouple controlled to ensure the cured laminate has the highest possible resinproperties. The Tg. of the finished base bar is in excess of 130 degrees Celsius.

The process used to produce the 'Zoom' base bar means there is no secondary bonding of parts. Each base bar is removed from the mould with a high gloss finish. A small amount of resin flashing, at the mould part line, is all that requires removing before the base bars are delivered to Moyes for attachment of end fittings.
