Rowing Sweep Riggers
Australian Rowing Technologies contacted
Composite Creations in June 2000
with a requirement to produce aerodynamic carbon
fibre riggers for their rowing skulls.
We were able to bring together Jim Goulding
of Ausrowtec, and a highly qualified CAD
designer, who knew nothing about rowing. With
added input from Composite Creations regarding
production methods a rigger design was finalised
in CAD.
Composite Creations then carried the project
forward from CAD file to completion. This
involved:
CAD/CAM processing

3 axis prototyping
3 axis tool making
Thermocouple controlling
Laminate Design
Computer Cutting of Laminates
Production of parts.
These aerodynamic riggers are produced as a
monocoque product using pre-impregnated carbon
fibres and a female pressure forming process.
The rigger arm has an internal carbon
compression post supporting the stainless steel
washer plates at the rowlock pin slot.
Composite Creations continues to produce
sweep riggers for Ausrowtec when required with plans
to produce skulling riggers in the future.
